600/4340/4 EAL Level 3 Award in the In-Service Inspection and testing of electrical equipment (PAT)

What does this qualification cover?

 The skills and knowledge required to carry out the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. This Award has one unit which covers: statutory and non-statutory requirements, electrical units, equipment construction; inspection and testing theory, practical inspection and testing of equipment and completion of documentation. The award follows the Industry recognised IET (IEE) Code of Practice published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. It provides a facility for individuals to develop and/or enhance their knowledge and skills in order they can inspect electrical equipment which is ‘in-service’.

 Equivalent to C & G 2377-22/32.

• Those who wish to carry out formal visual inspections, and inspections and tests of electrical equipment.

 • Electricians who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills.

 • Those who wish to pursue a career in the electrotechnical/building services sector.

• is recognised by industry, and was developed in conjunction with the IET, NICEIC, ECA, and Summitskills.

• EAL Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations

Entry requirements  

Learners must be at least 16 years old. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required for the completion of the learning outcomes and the assessments

How is the qualification achieved?

 The qualification is achieved when the unit assessments have been successfully completed. The centre will then be able to apply for the learner’s certificate.

What will be assessed?

 The theory and practice involved with the safe in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment.

How will it be assessed?

 An on-screen exams and a practical assessment. The qualification is not graded and the learner may only achieve a pass/fail. The qualification assessments are open book and the learner will require the IET Code of Practice.
